DuselForty58 came together with the goal of sharing the diverse variety and genres of music the members revere and love. Ranging from Western European classical music to jazz, DuselForty58 presents transcriptions, arrangements, and original music written by composers as far back as Bach to those currently living today. By actively commissioning new works, the ensemble aims to include works from our time to audience members at each concert.
The core ensemble of DuselForty58 consists of a string quartet and a saxophone. With an extension of up to eight musicians (core ensemble plus piano, drum set, and bass) the presentation of a broad range of repertoire would be possible to allow the ensemble to work flexibly for a wide audience base.
The musicians of DuselForty58 Members have active careers as performers, educators and composers. They hold music performance degrees and received musical educations from Yale University, University of Southern California, University of California Los Angeles, Colburn School, Berklee College of Music, and the University of the Phillipines.
As dedicated chamber musicians, members have individually participated and received honors at prestigious competitions such as the Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition, the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition, the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle Small Ensemble Competition, the Ozelle Rubenstein Memorial Prize at the International Young Artists Peninsula Music Festival, and the San Diego MTAC Chamber Competition. They collaborated with renowned musicians such as the Borromeo String Quartet, composer Steven Mackey, Emmy Award-winning violist Richard O’Neill, Guillaume Sutre of the Ysaÿe Quartet, and Grammy Award-winning entertainer Ian Whitcomb. Their performances have also been featured live on radio and television broadcasts such as Classical KUSC—Los Angeles, KCRW—Santa Monica, KING-FM—Seattle, Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR)—Germany, and Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK)—Japan.
The members of DuselForty58 who are composers have written prolifically for award-winning films and chamber ensembles. Notable collaborations include The Manila Metropolitan Theater in the presentation of “Isang Munting Alamat”, a rock opera with libretto by Rosauro de la Cruz, and film scores with directors Ishmael Bernal and Lino Brocka.
