WebsiteTo commemorate Bach’s birthday, we have decided to play a selection of works by Bach, rearranged for 4 cellos. Instead of performing them on 4 cellos, we have decided to perform on 3 cellos and 1 viola. Our group has been experimenting with this unique quartet combination and have found that substituting one cello with a viola can bring out ranges and qualities that may not be possible with 4 cellos. Both instruments use the strings C, G, D and A but one octave apart. As both instruments were performed on in the baroque era, we feel that this is an appropriate combination for this occasion!
