Mandolin Ensemble LA | 10-HR Bach Marathon | Union Station | Location A by TRAXX Restaurant

Founded in 2010, Mandolin Ensemble LA performs a varied repertoire of baroque music, tangos, and music from the early 20th-century “golden age” of mandolin orchestras.  Its members are drawn from the Los Angeles mandolin community: some are experienced players from contemporary mandolin orchestras; others picked up a mandolin for the first time last year.

Program (all arranged for solo mandolin or mandolins and mandocello):
Air on the G String

Minuet in G minor

Cello Suite No. 1, Gigue

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring

Cello Suite No. 3, Bourree I

Cello Suite No. 6, Gavotte I and II

Cello Suite No. 1, Prelude

Our members have rather eclectic musical tastes, but one thing we all love playing together is the music of J.S. Bach.  For many of our members, the Cello Suites served as an entry point to the world of classical mandolin.  We loved the idea of sharing his music with the community, in the beautiful public space of Union Station.
