Megan Knapp | 10-HR Bach Marathon | Union Station | Location C by Vignes St.

First and foremost, I am a fierce advocate for the arts. I play music written by J.S. Bach because he contributed a generous amount of works to cello literature, an experimental instrument during his time. He was an an innovator and explorer; his music timeless. I love to play this music in public spaces, because I am sure J.S. Bach composed his music for the world, for anyone; we are all his people. – Megan Knapp Megan Knapp is a cellist, a devoted advocate for the arts, and an eager performer.Ms. Knapp was a Teaching Assistant for the cello studio at the University of Colorado-Boulder and earned her Master’s in Cello Performance from the University of Colorado in May of 2014. She earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Northern Colorado in 2008. Ms. Knapp is a champion for new music. She values collaborating with new composers and seeks new works to perform and record. While in Boulder, her Focolari Quartet was selected to collaborate on, and perform, a world-premiering piece, based on Buddhist principals and improvisation, at Naropa University. Recent highlights include performing with Syrian-American pianist and composer, Malek Jandali, in Boulder and New York City, and she looks forward to upcoming concerts with him in the United Arab Emirates. Between her educational pursuits, Ms. Knapp freelanced in Los Angeles, a performance highlight of that period being an event hosted at the home of the Czech Republic Consul performing Dvorak’s “American” String Quartet, as a member of the Walden String Quartet. Aside from her classical music endeavors, Ms. Knapp also pursues alternative styles. While at the University of Colorado-Boulder, she took the stage with the Metropolitan Art Museum’s Artist in Residence, DJ Spooky. She also records and performs with local Los Angeles-based bands including Romantic Comedy and Alicia Broussard, among others. Ms. Knapp is also a demo artist for the Apogee microphone, “Mic,” and she was named “Emerging Artist” for the 2011 Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival in Los Angeles. Ms. Knapp is thrilled to have returned to Los Angeles. Her graduate work at the University of Colorado-Boulder has instilled a spirit of adventure in her, and has invigorated her as a performer and teacher. About T’ang Quartet

Cutting an unmistakable silhouette on the local and global stage, the Quartet comprising Ang Chek Meng (2ND VIOLIN), Ng Yu-Ying (1ST VIOLIN), Leslie Tan (CELLO) and Lionel Tan (VIOLA) has been pushing the boundaries of classical music since 1992.

The Quartet started its professional career in 1999 with unanimity of purpose: to break new ground in sharing the sheer joy and pleasure of music to a larger audience, and set new standards of artistic achievement. A playful reference to the last names of the Quartet’s members, ‘T’ang’ also symbolizes the golden age of cultural expression in the Tang Dynasty, a nod to their Asian roots.

Trained in London and Moscow, the Quartet found its genesis when Ang Chek Meng, Ng Yu- Ying & brothers Leslie & Lionel Tan were members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Forming the Quartet in 1992, they embarked on a musical journey together, exploring the frontiers of string chamber music. Twenty-two years later, the Quartet continues to evolve, surprising and delighting audiences with its innovative dexterity.
