Callie Gálvez is a Cuban-American cellist based in Los Angeles, California.
In over twenty cities, including New York City, Boston, Dallas, Berlin, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, Gálvez has studied and promoted cello as a versatile voice needed in all genres of music. She has attended, as a scholarship recipient, the Montecito International Music Festival, Lev Aronson Legacy Festival, Stanislaus Chamber Festival and most recently served as a principal cellist on full-fellowship at the National Orchestral Institute. Passionate about opera, Gálvez was contracted as principal cellist for Opera Buffs, Inc at Zipper Hall (Colburn) and assistant principal for the Pacific Opera Project Company this past year. She enjoys being a frequent artist for the LA Violoncello Honors Society and has been a cellist in many local symphonies including Peninsula, Los Angeles Jewish, Local 47, Bakersfield, La Mirada, and Bellflower Symphonies. Gálvez has recorded on many stages and studios such as SOKA performing arts center, SIR, Premier Studios NYC, Pig Sound Studio, Hybrid Studios, Ostin Recording Studio and EastWest Studios.
Classically-trained cellist, Callie Gálvez thoroughly enjoys the versatility of the cello while performing and improvising in jazz, rock, pop concerts and recordings. She has played in venues such as the Forum, Shrine, Hotel Cafe, Silverlake Lounge, and Walt Disney Concert hall with well-known bands some of which include Circa Survive, Marco Antonio Solis, and Until The Ribbon Breaks. Callie Gálvez currently lives in Los Angeles as a recording artist, chamber musician, educator, and performer. As an educator, she enjoys teaching as the cello instructor at AMUSE Music Center where she maintains a private studio of over thirty cellists. She is a member of MTAC (Music Teachers of Association of California) and co-founder of the AMUSE String Orchestra program. A passionate supporter of inner city youth programs, Gálvez teaches at Children of Promise Preparatory Academy and has been a frequent artist coach at Gustavo Dudamel’s Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA).
