Joyce Ng

A unifying passion in Joyce’s multiple roles, as an urban planner, musician, and community connector – is for the flourishing of communities. An active musician who believes in the power of music to heal, connect and unite, Joyce holds the ABRSM Licentiate of the Royal School of Music (LRSM) and Licentiate of the Trinity College of London (LTCL) in Violin Performance, and is an alumnus of the University of London Symphony Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, and Singapore National Youth Orchestra.

Combining both her musical and urban planning interests, Joyce has activated public spaces in previous Bach in the Subways, and realized several creative public spaces at global Parking Day events, in collaboration with local communities. A Young Southeast Asian Initiative (YSEALI) fellow, Joyce also graduated with a First-Class Honours from University College London.

He is currently Oboist in Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Guest Principal Oboist of Chamber Philharmonic Taipei and Leader-mentor oboist in the Orchestra of the Music Makers. His previous experiences include playing principal oboe and English horn with various prominent musical groups in Singapore such as the Singapore Lyric Opera, The Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonic Winds.

As an active musician, Yibin plays a wide range of genres. He played film oboe music for “Disney on Classic”, Asia Tour 2015, “Star wars and beyond”, and recorded oboe for the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of “My Love Sinema”, a Singapore local movie production in 2016. He has also been featured as an oboe soloist, playing pieces ranging from Baroque to Romantic period in Orchestre d’harmonie Schlierbach (France), Chamber Philharmonic of Taipei (Taiwan), and Philharmonic Winds (Singapore).

As a keen educator, Yibin has taught oboe for more than a decade in various Institutions including the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, School of the Arts Singapore and the Singapore Armed Forces Band. He writes articles in The Band Post and is invited to give oboe workshops in the Singapore Woodwind Festival 2015. He is the maker of the oboe reeds “Repons”.

Yibin’s musical development was greatly influenced by the tutorship he has received. After having SSO oboe tutelage by Elaine Yeo and Pan Yun, he did Bachelor of Music under Rachel Walker, YST Conservatory of Music and Katherine Needleman, Peabody Institute. Under the National Arts Council Bursary grant, he went on to do Masters in Performance under Emanuel Abbuehl, Musik Akademie der Stadt Basel. He has also benefitted greatly from masterclasses by various oboe professors, such as Werner Herbes and Alfredo Bernadini.
