The Hollywood Hills Association of Recorder Players first met in 2011. The group is made up of ten to twelve adult recorder players of intermediate and advanced skill levels. They meet once a month for a large group session, and then, during the rest of the month, they meet in smaller ensembles to play music. Over the years they have learned pieces spanning from the medieval to the contemporary, and they own and play recorders of all sizes, ranging from the sopranino to the contrabass. The purpose of the group is to enjoy making music in an ensemble, and to further musical knowledge and instrumental skills. As Bach is one of the group’s favorite composers, over the years they have learned many transcriptions and arrangements. We are very happy to be able to perform them now for the Bach in the Subway event. Maria Kmetkova
Maria Kmetkova describes herself : I graduated at University of musical arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava. During my studies at conservatory in Bratislava I won the Competition of Slovak conservatories in harp playing in 2006. At that time I realized that there is no other way for me but music, so I have bought my own harp and started to work it at full blast.
As a soloist, I am particularly devoted to classic music, but I always try to find new ways of self expression through broader repertoire of different genres and time periods. Along with compositions from the time of romanticism or impressionism I keep enriching my repertoire with movie and musical standards, modern evergreen remakes of current pop hits….
