American Guild of Organists – Seattle Chapter

Because the Seattle chapter of the American Organists Guild played in two shopping malls in December, it has received a special invitation to come back and play the music of J.S. Bach music in celebration of his birthday as part of Bach in the Subway. We will perform at Crossroads Mall in Bellevue on Saturday, March 19 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM (with a 30-minute break from 3:00 to 3:30 for a half hour of solo piano performances) at the Main Stage. You are cordially invited to sign up to play. The guild will once again be playing on the Seattle chapter’s Marceau portative organ of three ranks (8′ Holz Gedeckt, 4′ Spire Flute, 2′ Principal) one manual and pedal. The Bach music selected can be organ or organ+ with other instruments/vocal and it need not be long and weighty. Pick out one or more pieces which you believe would have appeal to people so that they will stop and listen.

To indicate your interest in playing on March 19, please e-mail Susanna Valleau susanna.valleau@gmail.com and tell her about how many minutes you will need and whether you would prefer to play near the beginning, in the middle, or near the end of the 1:00-5:00 PM time period. Please contact her without delay as time is limited. General question to Carl Dodrill (carl@dodrill.net).

Valimina Spangler is the daughter of Diana’s son, in 8th grade and first chair advanced band in middle school. She demonstrated such good discipline as a musician, that the school band director requested that she learn to play the trombone, as their band was short on low brass. This is her first year playing for Bach in the Subways.

Alexa Smith is Diana’s daughter. Alexa has had experience playing flute and piccolo in high school concert and marching band, as well as church events; she also has vocal music experience from voice lessons and various choir experiences in mostly high school and college. She is a graduate of California Baptist University with a degree in English, completed at honors level a teacher credentialing program at William Jessup University in the Sacramento area, and is now an elementary school teacher in Riverside County. This is her second year playing for Bach in the Subways.

The following selections are in two part or trio arrangement:

Forlane, BWV 1966
Matthaus-Passion BWV 244
Andante, BWV 1049
Siciliano, BWV 1031, duet arrangement by Diana Irving
Gavotte BWV 816
