T’ang Quartet

T’ang Quartet joins the Singapore edition of Bach in the Subways Day

Johann Sebastian Bach has given the world so much music to love. Now it’s time for us to share them with others so everyone can enjoy the beauty of his music for free.

Come Saturday 21st March 2015, T’ang Quartet will join the Singapore edition of Bach in the Subways Day. The Quartet will take their instruments away from the confines of the conventional concert hall, and out to the streets. Joined by local band Lorong Boys, the foursome will share many of Bach’s musical creations at up to five intimate and unconventional underground locations across the island, for all Singaporeans to enjoy.

So put on a birthday hat, look for us, and go Bach in time with us!

About T’ang Quartet

Cutting an unmistakable silhouette on the local and global stage, the Quartet comprising Ang Chek Meng (2ND VIOLIN), Ng Yu-Ying (1ST VIOLIN), Leslie Tan (CELLO) and Lionel Tan (VIOLA) has been pushing the boundaries of classical music since 1992.

The Quartet started its professional career in 1999 with unanimity of purpose: to break new ground in sharing the sheer joy and pleasure of music to a larger audience, and set new standards of artistic achievement. A playful reference to the last names of the Quartet’s members, ‘T’ang’ also symbolizes the golden age of cultural expression in the Tang Dynasty, a nod to their Asian roots.

Trained in London and Moscow, the Quartet found its genesis when Ang Chek Meng, Ng Yu- Ying & brothers Leslie & Lionel Tan were members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Forming the Quartet in 1992, they embarked on a musical journey together, exploring the frontiers of string chamber music. Twenty-two years later, the Quartet continues to evolve, surprising and delighting audiences with its innovative dexterity.
