To commemorate Bach’s birthday, we have decided to play a selection of works by Bach, rearranged for 4 cellos. Instead of performing them on 4 cellos, we have decided to perform on 3 cellos and 1 viola. Our group has been experimenting with this unique quartet combination and have found that substituting one cello with a viola can bring out ranges and qualities that may not be possible with 4 cellos. Both instruments use the strings C, G, D and A but one octave apart. As both instruments were performed on in the baroque era, we feel that this is an appropriate combination for this occasion!

Bach in the Library

Young musicians from the Utah Symphony Youth Guild will provide two hours of glorious music by Bach to surprise, entertain, and uplift the patrons of the Salt Lake City Public Library. Playing as soloists and in groups, these talented artists are always a welcome serendipitous experience.
