Sim Keng Boon received a Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarship to study Music and Mathematics at the University of Birmingham, England. He majored in piano performance there and graduated with 1st class honours. He proceeded to obtain his Masters degree in Piano Performance from International College of Music Hamburg, Germany in 2012, under the tutelage of Professor Manfred Fock (Germany). Some of his other notable teachers include Lena Ching (Singapore), Ong Lip Tat (Singapore), Kenneth Hamilton (UK) and Tedd Joselson (USA).
From 2004 – 2009, Keng Boon served at the Ministry of Education, Singapore as a teacher of Cambridge ‘A’ Level Music, specializing in History, Analysis, Composition and Performance.
Sim Keng Boon has performed extensively both on the local and international scenes. He made his Singapore debut in two sold-out recitals in September 2006 and was invited to perform the “Yellow River Piano Concerto” with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra in March 2008. During his time in Germany, he performed regularly in Hamburg as well as various venues in the Schleswig-Holstein region of Germany, notably Flensburg, Kiel, Lübeck and Brunsbüttel. In April 2012, Keng Boon also put up a piano recital at Tiara Koto Recital Hall, Tokyo, Japan.
Sim Keng Boon has recorded two solo albums, featuring piano works by Busoni, Brahms, Granados, Liszt, Scriabin, Ravel and Kapustin. Apart from private piano lessons, Keng Boon also gives masterclasses at various institutions in Singapore. Currently, he is also a part-time lecturer at Singapore Raffles Music College.
